Yoga Therapy

Yoga Therapy is yoga that is designed for the individual. Students come to a yoga therapist for many reasons. They may just have a few achy joints and would like some relief or it could be more serious like scoliosis or herniated disks. Yoga Therapy is truly east meets west, blending the ancient yoga philosophy with modern western medicine. Below is a full description of what to expect after booking a yoga therapy session with me.

Evaluation: For the first private we meet for a full evaluation, this lasts about an hour. This is where we talk about your personal history as it relates to your yoga therapy goals. I measure the range of motion in your joints and take down any other data that would be relevant, like x-rays, MRI’s or any other findings.

Develop a plan: The next step is for me to take all the information I gathered on our evaluation appointment and develop a yoga routine specific to your needs. Sometimes the routine is meant to be used to in order to strengthen the body so that eventually a person can rejoin a group yoga class. In other cases the routine is meant to supplement the already existing yoga practice.

Private practice: The second private we meet for is to do the personal practice I have designed. We will meet for 60-75minutes. This is where we go over the routine and I can answer any questions you may have. During the routine I like to take pictures of you in each pose, which I will send to you. After this appointment you will leave with a handwritten routine I have provided you with, so that you can continue on your own at home.

Power Point: After our second private I will go home and design a power point slide show of your routine. Using the pictures I took during our appointment I will add directions so that there is no confusion about your routine. About a week later you should receive an email with the PowerPoint slides and I will also send the printed pictures in the mail.

Personal Practice: After we meet the more you can integrate your personal practice into your daily routine, the better. Each person is unique so there may be no need to schedule another yoga therapy appointment. For others, you should reschedule after about a month of regular practice. Then we can re-evaluate and compare to the data we had from the first evaluation. This way we can see improvements and make changes where it’s necessary!
